Superhero Cake
  • Comments
At some point in most people's lives, the love of superheroes was unavoidable. We're sure most have uttered the words "POW", "BOOM", and "ZAP" at some point during an imaginary battle with their (and the planet's) nemesis. So we knew that the Superhero Cake had to encompass this, and so much more. The Superhero Cake is a 2-tiered fondant cake, incorporating the best, and most general elements of the superhero genre. Superhero blues, reds, and yellows, a cityscape of the city the superhero is sworn to protect, stars lining and bursting off the cake, and the classic "Pow" and "Bam" of past and future battles won - this Superhero Cake, and the Superhero Experience it fits into, is a great cake for that super-someone.

Tips
For The Superhero Cake
We decided that a fondant cityscape would be a great border and a nice touch to the bottom tier of our cake. We suggest buying fondant that is pre-made black like FondArt. It cuts down on the time and energy it takes to dye fondant darker colors
We thought that creating a chat bubble would be a fitting touch to have on top of the cake. We traced the chat bubble onto our fondant from a template and then used rubber letter stamps to indent "Happy Birthday" onto our fondant. After the fondant dried overnight, we painted in the letters with super black Americolor gel paste using a simple paintbrush. We also used this technique to outline our stars and other accents on the cake
When adding accents that require floral wire, please always remember that you should not have wire in contact with the cake. Place these wires into a drinking straw or cocktail straw, and then place in the cake, removing them only when its cake cutting time. We always fill the end of the straw with royal icing or frosting, extra assurance that the wire does not come in contact with the cake

Ideas For The Superhero Cake
We used a basic round black cake stand for our Superhero Cake. Check out Sur La Table, Pottery Barn, or Sarah's Stands for your stand. All offer an assortment of cake stands for you to choose from
A simple printable dessert label can go a long way to completing the presentation. We offer free printable dessert labels, along with the rest of the Superhero Experience Printables, that you can download here. We recommend using cover weight paper which you can find at Paper-Source. We usually use pure white, but feel free to choose a color that works for you
