Not So Caramel Mini Apples Recipe

Some people don't like caramel. And although we can't relate, if this describes you, rest assured that we still think of you and want to make treats for you too. Since most people are gnawing on a caramel apple during fall, we thought we'd make some Not So Caramel Mini Apples that were coated with chocolate instead... complete with peanuts and sprinkles too.

Before You Get Started Making Not So Caramel Mini Apples

Prepare a baking sheet with a piece of wax paper
Prepare small dishes with crushed peanuts or sprinkles of your choice

Not So Caramel Mini Apples Ingredients And Amounts (Yields 10 mini apples)

1 granny smith apple or apple of choice
3/4 cup (150g) milk chocolate chips
chopped peanuts or sprinkles for dipping

Not So Caramel Mini Apples Step-By-Step Directions

1) Wash apples thoroughly. If using twigs as apple sticks, wash and dry the twigs thoroughly. With a sharp knife cut down the twig at a 45 degree angle, cutting a pointed tip at the end of the twig, and taking off some of the bark before inserting it into the apple.

2) Using a melon baller, begin to cut out 10 small round pieces of apple. Dry them off with a paper towel, insert the stick of your choice and set aside.

3) Melt your chocolate over a double boiler or in the microwave (if using the microwave, melt the chocolate slowly and mix often so not to burn the chocolate).

4) Dip the mini apples in the chocolate up to the rim of the apple peel. Then, dip the chocolate apple into crushed peanuts, sprinkles, or leave them plain, then place them on a wax paper lined baking sheet.

5) When all the apples are dipped, place in the freezer for 15 minutes to set. Once set, enjoy!

Not So Caramel Mini Apples Sweet Notes

If you are using twigs as sticks for your mini apples, please do research on the tree that you're taking the twigs from. Some twigs can be poisonous and we wouldn't want anyone getting sick. Although it's a cute look, it's just not worth it
Feel free to dip your mini apples in white chocolate or do a white chocolate drizzle on the milk chocolate apples. We suggest buying the baking white chocolate bars as white chocolate chips do not melt well for dipping
If you do like caramel, and want to make the caramel version of these mini apples, caramel will not stick very well to the exposed apple. You can try dipping them and placing them straight into the fridge to set, and then easting them immediately
