Mini Flower Cakes

Mini cakes are a great addition to any Dessert Experience. People can enjoy their own miniature cake, or share it with someone else. The best part about mini cakes is that you can make them as small as you like or as big as you need. You can stack them and fill them with icing, you can cover them with buttercream, or fancy them up with fondant. We decided to fancy ours up for the Bee Experience with a thin layer of fondant, a chocolate flower on top, and finished it off with a bee flying overhead.

Tips
For The Mini Flower Cakes
We baked our cake in a half sheet pan for thin layers. With round 3.5-inch mini cake boards, we used a round cutter to punch out cake that was suitable for our boards. We built our mini cakes on the boards, iced, and then finished them with fondant
When covering cakes in fondant (mini cakes included) the most important part is to make sure the cake is level and the icing is nice and smooth. Fondant can be tough on its own, so when one starts with a perfect canvas, it really can make things go more smoothly
The best thing about mini cakes is that they really add a special touch to any dessert table. You can keep mini cakes plain, or add a modeling chocolate/sugar flower and a little bee to pump up the cuteness
One of the first cake designers that we admired was Zoe Clark. She has many great books but the one that comes to mind for these mini cakes is The Cake Parlour Dessert Tables. She shows step-by-step how to make mini cakes and much more
Presentation
Ideas For The Mini Flower Cakes
We presented our Mini Flower Cakes on a 15 x 7-1/4 inch rectangular white plate from Sur La Table. We especially love to use these plates in our Experiences as the clean and simple lines tend to complement any dessert table. We recommend getting the set of 3 if you tend to host parties often
A simple printable dessert label can go a long way to completing the presentation. We offer free printable dessert labels, along with the rest of the Bee Experience Printables, that you can download here. We recommend using cover weight paper which you can find at Paper-Source. We usually use pure white, but feel free to choose a color that works for you
